“Tours of Duty:

WW II Veterans Personal Stories

Eleanor Bertrand is a registered nurse who has traveled with Military Historical Tours for the past five years.  Her role is to care for the veterans and other participants who need medical assistance on the tours.  She was asked to document some of the many experiences the veterans have shared with her.  Her book, Tours of Duty: World War II Veterans Personal Stories, is a culmination of some of the stories the veterans have shared.

From the Sands of Iwo Jima to the Battle of the Bulge and the prisoner-of-war camps in both Europe and the Pacific, the veterans of World War II tell it like it was. They opened their hearts to her and shared the most memorable experiences they had during the war as they returned to their battle sites. Each wanted to return to bring closure to his own personal war, but most important was the desire to honor the buddies who were left behind.

Standing on the battlefields where they fought so valiantly more than 60 years ago brought back vivid memories to each of these veterans.

Their personal accounts will touch the hearts of each reader — never to be forgotten. Eleanor relates each story with genuine appreciation for the sacrifices these men have made for the freedom we all enjoy today.
